Once upon a time, there was a dragon…

Take one newly trained Fire Mage. Make him the first (sane) Fire Mage that’s been born in the past two hundred years. Have him leave home and venture into the Empire of Sol.

Add one powerful, curious, fire-eating dragon.

Fire Mage Haikrysen never imagined that he would be adopted out of the blue by a dragon. But then, he never thought he’d find a permanent home in the northern section of Sol, working as a firefighter either. Still, he likes his new home and adores his dragon companion—even if she does hoard jewelry and eats whole sheep for breakfast.
But his peaceful days end abruptly when an arsonist starts torching the eastern section of the empire, his attacks becoming progressively bigger and faster. It’s beginning to look like he’s another insane Fire Mage on the loose.
Krys, Kaya, and his partner Mari are sent to investigate, but they have no idea what the aim of the arsonist is, and very little knowledge of the man. Desperate, the three of them race against time to catch the madman before he burns a path across the whole empire, and everyone in it.

Dragon’s Mage by Honor Raconteur, set in the Advent Mage world, features the returning character of Haikrysen, the first real Fire Mage of his generation.

The Dragon Mage Advent Mage Cycle Book 6 eBook Honor Raconteur

Dragon's Mage follows the fire mage Krys who was rescued from Chahir during the story arc chronicled in the four books Jaunten, Magus, Advent, and Balancer. This story begins with Krys leaving Strae Academy and heading out into the world to find himself a familiar and make a name for himself in the Empire of Sol. The familiar he finds is, as the title says, a dragon attracted to his mastery of the element of fire. And that's as far as I'll go with the spoilers.

Once again Honor does a stellar job of creating characters that draw you in and make you cheer them on. The dialog between the characters is comfortable and flows easily. No long expositions by characters that sound like lectures instead of conversation.

My nitpicks are fairly minor. There's an emergency situation that comes up about the middle of the book that never gets fully fleshed out as the characters deal with the magical problem and they leap off to the next emergency. The general feel for most(all) of the interactions between the three main character, Krys, his familiar Kaya, and his boss Mari, and the people they interact with is positive, but it started to feel a little to Utopian to me. I generally expect more roadblocks to be thrown in the way of the main characters while they try to accomplish their goals.

As a YA title the book length was probably just about perfect, although I could wish it to be longer. All in all an enjoyable book to read.

The Dragon Mage Advent Mage Cycle Book 6 eBook Honor Raconteur Reviews

This is a variation on dragons that is quite amusing. I like this author and her sense of humor. It is nice to read a funny plot and be entertained , while totally unrelated to the reality of this world. A nice break.
Having not read this author before I was hesitant to start. I am extremely pleased to announce that I very much like it. DRAGONS caught my attention and the author has made me happy. I will read her other books. This one has everything and more in the story plot, characters development and action. I expect that her other books will have more of the same. Thanks, good writing.
Having bought all of Honor's books and loved them, I was not disappointed I this one! Great story and characters. My biggest problem with this author is that the books don't come fast enough, even though she is much more prolific than my other favorite authors. If you find a need to read this book, I would recommend you start with the advent Mage (sorry Garth) series but it is not necessary. Keep 'em coming...please!
Krys is a fire mage that needs work. He is fallowed by a dragon and adopted. She is a very intelligent dragon that wants to learn.
Good for all young adults and up. Fast pace and keeps the reader enraptured in the story line. Never had a bad read when it comes to Honor Raconteur books. I'm always excited when one of her new book is due out.
Yay, another story set in the advent Mage world!

I was a bit worried when I realized that this book was not told from Garth's point of view, but Krys' story proved to be just as much fun and provided an interesting look at how one Mage makes a living and a home.

Throw in appearances and mentions of many of the characters from the original series and this book is a must-read for advent Mage fans.

Thanks for the treat Honor - keep 'em coming!
I was just surfing on when I noticed that Honor Ranconteur had another book out. Again she out does herself. The only problem I had with this book was that it was a little short for my taste. Otherwise I loved it. I laughed out loud especially at the epilogue. I loved how Garth still has not really changed and he not completely gone away.

What I really loved was Krys new familiar. I loved how Honor explained how Kaya chose Krys. I don't know what else to say. I just really liked this book. I hope to see more of the Advent Mage Cycle for there are still some unanswered questions from the first three books. I can not wait till next time. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did.
